Yamaha is expected to introduce the Yamaha R15 V5, an updated version of its popular entry-level sports bike, later this year. The R15 series has been known for its aggressive styling, refined performance, and advanced technology, making it one of the most preferred choices among sportbike enthusiasts.
With the upcoming V5 update, Yamaha is likely to introduce refinements in design, performance, and safety features to enhance the overall riding experience.
Expected Engine and Performance

The Yamaha R15 V5 is expected to continue using the 155cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology. This engine is designed to optimize power delivery at different RPM ranges, ensuring smooth acceleration and improved fuel efficiency.
The expected power output remains around 18.4 bhp and 14.2 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed gearbox. The assist and slipper clutch feature is likely to continue, helping in smoother gear shifts and reducing wheel lock-up during aggressive downshifting.
Yamaha may introduce ride-by-wire technology, improving throttle response for better acceleration. A quick-shifter, which allows clutchless upshifts, may also be retained or improved in higher variants.
Design and Features
The R15 V5 is expected to retain its sharp and aerodynamic design, inspired by Yamaha’s R-series superbikes. The twin LED projector headlamps, sculpted fuel tank, and fairings may receive minor design changes to improve aerodynamics. Yamaha may refine the riding position for improved comfort, while keeping the sporty stance intact.
A fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity is expected to include turn-by-turn navigation, call and SMS alerts, and ride telemetry data. Other expected features include a side-stand engine cut-off function, dual-channel ABS, and traction control to enhance rider safety.
Chassis, Suspension, and Braking
The Delta Box frame, known for its rigidity and handling characteristics, is likely to remain the same, offering stable cornering and precise control. The suspension setup is expected to feature USD (upside-down) front forks and a linked monoshock at the rear, ensuring a balanced ride on different road conditions.
The braking system is expected to include a 282mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc, equipped with dual-channel ABS for improved braking stability. Yamaha may also introduce adjustable brake and clutch levers to improve rider comfort.
Expected Price and Launch in India
The Yamaha R15 V5 is expected to launch in late 2025, with an estimated price range of ₹1.90 lakh to ₹2.10 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The final pricing may vary based on the features and variant options introduced at launch.
Competition and Market Position
The R15 V5 will compete with other motorcycles in the entry-level sportbike segment, including the KTM RC 200, Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, and Bajaj Pulsar RS200. Yamaha’s focus on performance, handling, and technology has made the R15 series a popular choice, and the V5 update is expected to refine the overall package further.
More details about the official launch, specifications, and availability are expected to be announced by Yamaha in the coming months.
